DUNCAN — After winning the Class 5A State Tournament in 2012, the Duncan girls golf team will get a chance to repeat in 2013.

The Lady Demons punched their ticket to state Wednesday, finishing in second place out of twelve teams at the Regional Tournament in El Reno.

“Everyone played really well today, we had two people shoot their lowest scores of the season,” Lady Demons coach Steve Ethridge said. “This should gives us some confidence going into the state next week.”

The first of those two players with a season-low score was Allyson Wilcox, who finished in second place with a 73. Wilcox had to earn the runner up position, winning a five hole playoff versus a Deer Creek competitor after tying for second after 18 holes.

Whitney Hall’s season low score of 81 was good enough to finish second on the team Wednesday.

“Whitney struggled at the Regional Preview Monday, but she battled back and played better than she has all year,” Ethridge said.”

Jerica Gregston and Savannah Martin tied with a 72 and Chelsea Harwell improved three strokes from her last tournament with an 88.

“We we moving up and down the course with ease and had a good enough day in the short game to finish with a good result,” Ethridge said.

While Duncan finished with a team score of 318, Deer Creek took home a regional title by shooting a 306. The top six teams earned a birth to the state tournament.

Duncan’s final and most important test of the season, the state tournament, will begin next Wednesday in Ardmore.a
