Duncan tennis takes third place at Guthrie

DUNCAN — The Duncan tennis team held out most of its varsity squad, but still managed to seize a top three finish Wednesday night at the Guthrie Tournament.

The Lady Demons placed behind champion Heritage Hall and runner up Ada to take third with a score of 49 points.

In No.1 singles play, Aubrey Mouser won one of four matches en route to an eighth place finish. Mouser’s victory came in her opener against Guthrie, who she beat 7-5. 6-4.

Abby Bredy found similar results in No. 2 singles, dropping her final three matches after winning her opener 6-1, 6-1 against Stillwater to finish eighth.

Duncan’s best effort came in No. 1 doubles play, where Carly Kirkland and Marissa Moore won their first three matches before falling in the final to finish in second place. The pair beat Deer Creek 6-0, 6-0, Perry 6-3, 6-3 and Guthrie 7-5, 6-1, 7-6 to reach the final, but fell 7-6, 6-1 to Heritage Hall in the championship match.

In No.2 doubles, Jordan Clauson and Peyton Bowers split their matches, winning its first and final matches to take seventh. The duo got off to a strong start by beating Del Reno 6-0, 6-0, dropped its next two matches and secured seventh with a 6-4, 6-0 win against the Oklahoma Christian School.
