Lady Comets offense explodes in win over Indians

Velma-Alma softball team overwhelms Comanche

MARLOW — Week two of the Marlow Summer softball league meant that it was time for old rivals to get reacquainted.

Velma-Alma and Comanche met in the middle of a hot night at Southwest Park, with the Lady Comets breaking out the offense in a big way.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, V-A scored 11 runs en route to a 13-2 victory over the Lady Indians.

Kyndel Brown got the rally started when she scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 2-1.

Jordan Layn tied the game when she also scored on a wild pitch, before Nikki Wright slapped an RBI double to left field, which scored Jesse Anderson and placed Wright on third base to make the score 3-2.

Carly Richardson then hit an RBI single to make it 4-2, before Shaylee Jensen scored on a walk to make it 5-2 in favor of the Lady Comets.

Richardson then struck again as she trotted home on a walk to make it 6-2, before Sidney Lewis also scored on a walk to make it 7-2.

Brown then collected two-RBI when she beat out a throw at first due to an error to make it 9-2, with Anderson collecting another RBI through a Fielder’s Choice groundout.

Brown scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Comanche got on the board through a Brittany Doucett RBI groundout which scored Hannah Suson to make it 1-0.

Marissa Beeson then made it 2-0 when she hit an RBI single up the middle.

Lyndsie Carroll and Lewis added the final two runs for the Lady Comets in the second inning.

Richardson got the win on the mound for the Lady Comets, throwing a complete game. She allowed just two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Tate Jackson took the loss for the Lady Indians, giving up five walks with two hits.
