Local residents tee off at holiday tournaments

Russell and Cole can’t be stopped at DG&T Club

DUNCAN — The fireworks didn’t kick off until nightfall, but Micah Russell and Brent Cole had no trouble providing the entertainment earlier in the day at the annual 4th of July Four Man Firecracker Scramble at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club.

Russell and Cole impressed on the course from sunrise to sunset, helping their teams claim the tournament’s morning and afternoon rounds with two straight scores of 56.

The duo teamed up with Natalie Cole and Ronnie Cole to win the morning match before completing a sweep by winning the afternoon’s 18 holes with Ron Crook and JJ Russell.

Russell and Cole’s top competition all day was the pair of Wayne Bradsher and Gerry Singer, who helped their four-man squad take second in both rounds.

Competition in each round came down to the wire, with three teams tying for second place in the morning and four groups finishing within three strokes of first place in the day’s final round.

Each round included 18 teams of four.
