Area baseball teams start seasons this week

DUNCAN — While the major league baseball players are busy preparing for the upcoming season, Stephens County High School baseball players will be hitting the field for real this week.

Starting today, games involving area teams will be taking place with Waurika and Central High facing off today from Broncho Field starting at 4:30 p.m.

Marlow meanwhile will begin its quest to make it back to the state tournament as the Outlaws open their season on the road at Lindsay with first pitch set for 4 p.m.

As for the Comanche Indians (1-1), they have already begun their season, and will continue with another road trip against Pauls Valley this afternoon.

CHS’ home opener will be Friday against Davis.

Speaking of teams who have already started their season, the Empire Bulldogs, who claimed a 7-5 victory over Healdton in their opener, will be back in action Tuesday afternoon against Ryan on the road at 4:30 p.m.

EHS will play its home opener on Thursday afternoon against Geronimo before traveling to Ringling on Friday afternoon.

Tuesday afternoon will also see a pair of home openers as the Outlaws will be at Stone-Black Field taking on Cache (4:30 p.m.) while Waurika will be hosting Ringling as well.

Not to be forgotten, head coach Tim Hightower and his Duncan Demons will make their regular season debut Thursday afternoon against Lawton Eisenhower on the road, before playing their home opener against Southmoore on Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for noon.

Also on the agenda this week is slow-pitch softball with many area teams in action.

Central High will be in action today on the road against Chattanooga, before hosting Rush Springs on Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m., followed by home games against Fletcher on Thursday afternoon and Empire on Friday afternoon.

Empire’s Lady Bulldogs will be taking on Cement at home Tuesday afternoon (4:30 p.m.), before traveling to Waurika on Thursday afternoon (4:30 p.m.)
