DUNCAN — When it comes to high school sports, there’s never an offseason for a championship program.

Such is the case for the Duncan High boys and girls tennis teams, who will be in action this weekend, along with many other participants for the First Bank and Trust Junior Open.

Matches are slated to begin Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. and run until Saturday afternoon.

“We’ve got between 40 and 50 kids registered for the event,” Duncan coach Phil Barnes said. “Normally when we have a tournament like this then we expect anywhere from 40 to 70 people.’

Participants are guaranteed two matches during the tournament, with three age divisions set up for both boys and girls participants.

After attending a camp at Baylor University in Waco last week, coach Barnes expressed that he’s hoping for more improvement from everyone.

“I thought we looked good at camp,” he said. “ You get better when you play different competition in the summer.”
