At the conclusion of day one at the Class 3A State Tournament, the Marlow boys had positioned itself to be in contention for a state title.
Finishing the first day atop the leaderboard, the Outlaws slipped out of the top spot on day two, but held on to claim third place at the tournament’s conclusion Saturday with 57 points.
The Lady Outlaws were affected the same way on the final day of competition, falling two spots from fifth to finish in seventh place with 35 points.
A big part of the boys’ success came in the 4X800 Meter Relay, as the Outlaws took first with a time of 8:28.12. The Lady Outlaws also thrived at the event, taking third.
Dalton Daubenspeck made the most of his sophomore campaign at state, winning the boys discus throw with a distance of 143 feet of six inches. Finishing behind Daubenspeck was Marlow’s George Caden, who took third.
The long distance runs were no match for Marlow’s Tony Aguilera, as the senior took fourth in the 1600 and 3200 Meter Runs.
Sophomore Patrick Kelly helped Marlow with its effort, taking third in the boys pole vault with a height of 13 feet.
Maci Rich played a critical role in the Lady Outlaws’ success, taking second in the Girls 1600 Meter Run and third in the Girls 800 Meter Run. Freshman Rylee Rich finish just behind her older sister in the 1600 Meter Run, taking fifth.
Senior Ashley O’Dell finished her track career on a high note, taking fifth place in the Girls 500 Meter Dash.
Also taking fifth in her event was Hannah Peters in the pole vault, reaching a height of eight feet and six inches.
