With day one of the Class 3A State Tournament in the books, the Comanche girls golf team has positioned itself quite nicely for the event’s final round.
Shooting a first-round team score of 376 Tuesday at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club, the Lady Indians sit in fourth place out of twelve teams with 18 holes remaining.
Leading the way in Comanche’s Top 5 effort was Emilee White, who opened with a team-low score of 84. White enters Day Two of competition in fifth place.
Also instrumental in the Lady Indians’ success were Davrey Carter with a score of 93, Brittany Doucet shooting a 99, Jenny Simpson scoring a 100 and Baylee Fulford finishing with a 115.
Marlow had two individuals competing at state. Avery Walker finished the first 18 holes with a 90, good for second out of thirteen competitors whose teams did not qualify for the state tournament. Alex Stephens also represented the Lady Outlaws well, shooting an opening round score of 96.
Eufaula finished the first day leading all competition with a 345, Henryetta is in second with a 355, Idabel sits in third with a 359 and Byng rounds out the top five after shooting a 389 on day one.
Play at the state tournament is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
