MARLOW — It was the most important meet of the season for Duncan High graduate Autumn Gordon and fellow members of the Oklahoma Central rowing team, and the Bronchos made sure to take advantage.

At the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships , Gordon and her Novice Four teammates Amy Lee, Chelsey McArthur, Tia Reed and Aleks Stogsdill thrived in the final round of their 22-crew race, collecting gold in the event’s Open category.

The group finished the course in 8:23:30 to finish ahead of the University of Tampa and Florida Tech.

“The novice four went out there and really executed their plans today,” said graduate assistant coach Kristin Philhower said. “They’ve come a long way this year and we as a staff couldn’t be more proud of their effort this weekend.”

Overall, the team turned out its most successful efforts at the tournament in school history, with three of the Bronchos four entries making it to the final round of their event.

Gordon, a member of Duncan High Schools’s graduating class of 2012, has found plenty of success in her freshman year with the team. Earlier this season, Gordon helped UCO upset Division I foes Kansas State and Oklahoma in a novice race at the OU Invitational. While at Duncan, Gordon competed for the Lady Demons tennis team

The Bronchos finished up their regular season Saturday in Oklahoma City against Oklahoma City University and Wichita State.
