Outlaws to face defending state champs

MARLOW — This Friday, Marlow will play the reigning Division 3A state champion Blanchard, and its focus is already on how it can win the battle in the trenches.

The Outlaws (4-1, 1-1) dominated up front in their 38-7 against Mount St. Mary, rushing for more than 450 yards. However, given that Blanchard (5-0, 2-0) has allowed only 16 points in its last four games replicating those numbers won’t be easy. Despite all these gaudy statistics, Marlow coach Rob Renshaw has started the week focused on what the Outlaws can improve.

“We’re trying to get better at what we do,” Renshaw said during practice Monday. “We have to worry about us… We’ve got to worry about our pad level. We’ve got to worry about us coming off the ball, moving our feet and doing the little things.”

Early in the season, the team started off on the right foot. Its only loss was a one point decision to Jones. The defense can take a lot of the credit for this as it has allowed just 27 points in its last four games. Still, the offensive line has been there when the team needed to run the clock out late in games. Senior offensive lineman Caden George said that the reason for the success last Friday against Mount St. Mary’s was the dedication of the players to excel in that area of the game.

“Last week in practice we worked on it a lot more, and we displayed that in the game,” George said. “It showed definitely.”
