CENTRAL HIGH — Central High will look to keep its undefeated district record intact as the Bronchos head to Allen Friday night.

Allen is coming off a 48-12 victory against Oklahoma Christian Academy last week. Like Central High, the Mustangs are 2-0 in District 2-B.

“They’re not really a spread team like Oklahoma Christian Academy is,” said Bronchos coach Keith Burton.

Instead, Allen is primarily a running team, Burton said, with good size on both the offensive and defensive lines. He said the quarterback runs the offense well and that the Mustangs like to run a lot of zone-read plays.

But although the Mustangs prefer to run the ball, “their quarterback has the ability to throw it downfield,” Burton said. “They use a lot of play action in the passing game.”

Burton added the Mustangs “defensively are sound and will pose a challenge to run the ball at them.”

The Broncho coach said Allen ranks in the top half of the district, along with Cyril, the other 2-0 team in the district.

“It’s an important game for us as we are jockeying for position” in the district standings, Burton said.

As far as improvement expected, the Broncho coach said he simply wants his players to improve their fundamentals each week and aren’t working on any specific areas.

And it helps having a group of players who are focused in practice, the coach said.

“I think we have us a good group with level heads on their shoulders,” Burton said. “They realize the importance of this game.”
