CENTRAL HIGH —
Faith Harris might be listed as a sophomore on the Lady Bronchos roster, but she sure hasn’t been playing like one lately.
For the second straight night, Harris put in 22 points to go with 14 rebounds as Central High snuck past Elmore City-Pernell 53-48 at Broncho Gymnasium.
“It’s really amazing because I work really hard to be successful during the game,” Harris said about her performance. “Whenever I get the ball I try to shoot it and just be in the right place at the right time for my teammates.”
Down the stretch though, it was free throw shooting which proved to be the difference for the Lady Bronchos.
Eleven made shots from the free throw line in the fourth quarter helped the Lady Bronchos maintain a lead as the Lady Badgers were threatening.
Three of those shots helped stave off the final rally of the night from ECP as the lead for CHHS went from 50-48 with 33 seconds left to 53-48 in mere moments.
“We shot free throws really well late in the game,” Central coach Chad Weldon said. “Elmore City is a really good team, and that’s how you win games is at the free throw line. We had a little lead coming in and we made them foul us.”
Both of these teams had cold shooting spells in the first quarter, as the game was tied at 9-9 going into the second.
Central High managed to hold a 26-25 lead at the half, before increasing the advantage to 39-31 at the end of the third.
Try as they might, the Lady Badgers (9-3) couldn’t get closer than one point in the second half as the Lady Bronchos (12-4) claimed their third straight victory of the week.
Lora Lynn-Loomis added 14 points for Central High, while Lacie Phillips put in 12 points.
Caitlyn White put in three, with Aleia Daniels scoring two points.
Elmore City-Pernell was led by Morgan Lewis and Haley Burks each scoring 12 points.
Central High will be in the Stephens County tournament facing Comanche Monday night at 6:20 p.m. from Marlow High School.
