DUNCAN — The Duncan High School boys swim team made some major waves against one the toughest fields it has faced this season.

The Demons nabbed six top-five finishes as they took third place as a team Tuesday at the Putnam City Invitational, which featured 12 teams.

“This was an outstanding meet for the swim program,” said Duncan coach Andrew Bowers. “This was a very tough meet with several great swim teams, it was a measuring stick for where we stand right now against the top teams in the state. Most of the teams were (Class) 6A, so for our boys to come in third, that really gives us a lot of confidence heading down the stretch.”

The Duncan girls finished 14th as a team, while Brittany Boles carried Marlow to a 13th-place finish.

Charles Espinola put on a show for the Demons, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly, second in the 100 butterfly and was the anchor on the 400 freestyle relay team, which took third.

Senior Mason Lang, meanwhile, placed second in the 100 backstroke and was a member of the 400 free relay.

Brennan DeHart finished fifth in the 100 free and was a member of the third-place relay team along with Davon Demar.
