CENTRAL HIGH —
Friday saw day two of the Red Dirt Baseball Classic tournament take place from Central High, with three Stephens County teams in action.
MAYSVILLE 6 BRAY-DOYLE 4
Just when it looked like the Donkeys were going to enter the win column against the Warriors of Maysville, things went horribly wrong.
Entering the top of the third inning, B-D held a 4-3 lead, but everything changed when MHS’ Kaleb House came to the plate with a runner on first.
House sent a shot down the first base line, which scored a run to tie the game at 4-4.
Then, three throwing errors allowed House to round the bases and score himself to give MHS a 5-4 advantage, which it never gave up.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Donkeys had an opportunity to get back in the game with two runners on base, but two strikeouts ended B-D’s hope of a comeback.
B-D’s offense struck in the bottom of the first inning when Cody Watson hit a sacrifice fly RBI to make it a 2-1 game before Austin Long scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-2 game in the bottom of the second inning.
Michael Hendrix tied the game at 3-3 when he scored on a throwing error to first base in the bottom of the second.
Watson then gave the Donkeys the lead with an RBI single.
Zach Ashbey and Jonathan Akins provided the offense for Maysville in the top of the first, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
Bryce Jensen made it 3-1 for Maysville with an RBI single in the top of the second.
Tanner Dowers added one more run for Maysville in the top of the fourth inning.
Cody Watson took the loss on the mound for the Donkeys, allowing six runs on four hits with six strikeouts and seven walks.

CENTRAL HIGH 7 VELMA-ALMA 6
While the playing conditions might have been terrible Friday night, the quality of play between Velma-Alma and Central High was just the opposite.
In a game which featured highlight worthy catches from both teams, it was a throwing error to third base which allowed two Broncho runs to score in the bottom of the fifth inning, leading to a dramatic 7-6 win for CHHS.
“These kids love the game, and when you love the game you’ll do whatever it takes to win,” Central coach Harley Nelson said. “This season our guys have decided to give everything they have on every pitch and not stop ever. I’m very proud of my guys.”
With misting rain and strong winds blowing all game long, Austen Dewitt and Derek Davis had more than enough strength to run home and score the tying and game winning runs for their team in the bottom of the fifth, which sent the Broncho fans wild.
But, the Comets looked as though they would be the ones celebrating earlier in the game as V-A took advantage of two errors in the top of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead.
Strait Ille and Evan Albertson made it a 4-3 ballgame with RBI singles, before a successful squeeze bunt tied the game at 4-4.
Dathan Poindexter then scored on a walk to give the Comets the lead at 5-4.
Ille struck again with another RBI to give his team a 6-4 lead.
Matthew Quisenberry then collected an RBI for the Bronchos to make it a 6-5 game in the bottom of the fourth.
Kelton Brown initially gave the Comets the lead with an RBI in the top of the first, through which Christian Florez scored on a throwing error.
Kade Taylor, Derek Davis (2) and Matthew Quisenberry had the RBI’s for the Bronchos in the first inning.
Ashton Wright got the win on the mound for the Bronchos, throwing four innings in which he allowed six runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Jarrett Sparks threw one inning of relief, in which he struck out three batters and walked one.
Kelton Brown took the loss for the Comets, allowing two runs in his third of an inning of relief.
