In an effort to give its graduating senior class a send off it will always remember, the Duncan High School Project Graduation will host its third annual 5K and mile run Saturday, April 13.
Festivities will begin with packet pickup at registration at 7 a.m. at the football stadium. The 1 mile run/walk for children will kick off at 8 a.m., while the 5K event is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Each event will commence in front of Duncan High. Early registration will also be available Friday, April 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m..
“We think it can be a lot of fun for people of all ages,” Project Graduation Director Kelly Mitro said. “It’s all about helping out the seniors have a memorable graduation night.”
While the 1 mile run/walk will take place at the Haliburton Stadium track, a route all over town has been mapped out for the 5K.
Following the run, door prizes, awards and healthy snacks will be offered in front of the high school. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female winners. For the children attending, a bounce house will also be stationed by the event
Expectations for the event are high, as Project Graduation members are expecting between 200 and 300 walkers to participate.
Residents can register online at signmeup.com/90263 or pick up entry forms at the Duncan Women’s Center or the Posh in Marlow.
Along with previous Project Graduation fund raisers that included a golf tournament in October and an auction in February, all funds from the event will go toward the seniors’ Graduation Night. On the night of graduation, the seniors will enjoy games, prizes and food while celebrating in the Simmons Center overnight.
“They play games all night and have a good time in one of their last times together,” Project Graduation Director Kelly Mitro said. “It’s going to be a safe and fun night for all of the kids, we have a lot planned for them.”
