DUNCAN — On a night when the weather was less than pleasant outside, the Lady Demons made sure their fans, along with their seniors went home happy.

Duncan used a five goal first half to blitz the Lady Jets from Western Heights, and close the 2013 season on a high note, claiming an 8-1 victory.

“This was a great way to end the season,” Duncan coach Delyida Gay said. “Everyone got to play hard, and we all had fun with it as well. It was the perfect ending to a not-so perfect season. Our girls are proud of what they accomplished with six wins, and I’m proud of them for finishing strong.”

While Western Heights might have spoiled the shutout with less than three minutes remaining in the second half, the Lady Demons had already finished the game off.

In the first half, it was all about the freshman duo of Stephanie Wainscott and Shai Johnson, who combined for four out of the five goals scored.

Johnson notched her eighth goal of the season with a high chip shot from outside the box which found the back of the net at the 34:36 mark of the first half, putting Duncan up 1-0.

Over the next 17 minutes, Wainscott put on her own show, registering a hat trick with three cleverly placed goals to bring her total for the season to 10 goals.

“My coaches are always telling me that I’m going to score a hat trick in a game,” Wainscott said about her goals. “It feels great being able to finally accomplish it in a real game situation.”

Then, it was time for senior Courtney Moore to apply another trademark goal from outside the box which rippled the top corner, giving the Lady Demons a 5-0 advantage going into halftime.

Moore then added a second goal less than three minutes into the second half, with a chip shot that found the inside part of the net to make it 6-0.

At the 26:54 mark, Johnson also netted her second of the night when she took a corner kick from Moore and fired a shot home for her ninth goal of the year.

To finish the game off in style, senior Tabetha Cochran showed great hustle in keeping a ball from going out of bounds, only to better it with a curling shot which found the back of the net for Duncan’s eighth goal of the night.

Moore, Lindsey Trostle, and senior Maddy Williams all split time in goal for the Lady Demons.

Duncan will graduate Katelyn Hicks, and Victoria Demar in addition to seniors Moore, Williams and Cochran.
