DUNCAN — Back for the second straight year, two Duncan track stars showed everyone why they are considered some of the top throwers in the country for their age at the Great Southwest Classic last weekend.

Recent graduate Derek McKnight and senior Kevin Roddy made the most of their business trip to Alberquerque,  placing in the discus throw and shot put against some of the top competitors in the region.

McKnight moved up 11 slots from last year’s performance in the shot put , finishing in second place with a throw of 17.2 meters (56-5.25).

Roddy placed in each of the tournament’s events, finishing right behind McKnight in the shot put with a distance of 17.03 meters (55-10.5) and claiming fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 49.14 meters (161-03).

The pair was invited to the event after strong performances at the Class 5A State Tournament. Roddy won the state title in the discus throw and took second in the shot put, while McKnight took gold in the shot put and finished sixth in the discus throw.
