DUNCAN — The highlights just keep coming for the Lady Demons.

Freshman pitcher Corrina Rivas struck out 16 batters, and junior catcher Berkley Faulkner hit her 10th home run of the season as the Duncan High School softball team shut out Elgin 6-0 Monday.

While Rivas impressed on the mound, Lady Demon coach Robert Cowan admitted her dominance means the fielders aren’t always as sharp as they want to be.

“When (Rivas) is striking out every batter, you’re not on your toes as much and not quite ready,” Cowan said.

And although the Lady Demons scored six runs off 12 hits, Cowan said the team stranded 19 baserunners.

Still, the Lady Demon coach was happy overall with the team’s performance. Duncan improved to 28-5 with the win.

Faulkner’s 3-for-5 day included her two-run shot over the fence. Mollea Cramton doubled. Autumn Parker, Sara McCormick and Kortney Brown each had two singles and Rivas, K.K. Williams and Kylie Greening each singled.

Duncan hosts Marlow Tuesday to close the regular season. It will be Senior Day for the Lady Demons. Duncan will then prepare to host regionals, which will start Oct. 9.
