COMANCHE — The Comanche middle school principal will guide the high school baseball team this season.

Brent Crow is no stranger to baseball, though. He coached junior high baseball a few years ago.

The Indians will have experience fielders but not as much on the mound. Three pitchers graduated from last year’s team. Still, Crow expects to be in good shape.

Returning are catcher Hunter Rice, first baseman Cody Crow and second baseman Tanner Russell. Back in the outfield are Brandon Bailey and Justin Hall. Tyler Ward plays designated hitter and first base. Dalton Wood, Christopher Van Oven and Hunter Powell are skilled utility players. VanOven is the only returner with pitching experience.

“It’s just a matter of finding the pitching,” Crow said. “We will have very limited experience with what we have coming back this year.”

Because the Comanche boys basketball team is still playing, practices have been limited. Crow expects the  baseball season start yo be delayed, but that it’s a good problem to have.

“I like that our kids are multi-sport athletes,” Crow said.

Crow said the early-season goals will be to compete hard and improve. It will be a matter of finding the right combination of players who work well together and a good pitching rotation.
