DUNCAN — When the Duncan swimmers attend regionals they will visit a brand new facility in Edmond.

The regional swim meet was scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Edmond YMCA Recreation and Aquatic Center, which had its grand opening Monday. But late Thursday night, the regional meet was postponed until next weekend.

The regional meet will host 24 schools and is the first competitive high school meet held at the new facility.

“I haven’t seen it in person,” said Demon coach Andrew Bowers, “but looking at the pictures on the Internet, it’s a state of the art facility.”

He said that means the swimmers will experience an atmosphere they may not be used to.

The meet is also a chance for the Duncan swimmers to visit the site of the Class 5A state meet, to be held Feb. 21-22.

At regionals, swimmers can qualify for the state meet. The top eight placers in each event will advance to state. This is different from past seasons, in which swimmers had to post a certain time to qualify for state.
