The weather has made it tougher for the Demons to take to the court or the pool for regular-season action.
Duncan’s scheduled basketball games against Lone Grove Tuesday have been postponed, as was Duncan’s scheduled swim meet at Harrah.
Demon boys coach Ben Scott admitted it was tough on the players when they learned the game had been postponed. He said that the players found out midway through practice Monday.
“It made the second half of practice tougher,” Scott said. “It was hard on them mentally, expecting to play a game and then learning you have to practice all week until you play Altus.”
Altus is the Demons’ next scheduled opponent, a home game this Friday. Scott said Altus is similar to his team in that the Tigers don’t have a lot of experienced players on varsity.
“They have only a couple guys from last year with a lot of playing time,” he said. “They were very good last year and they are well coached. It will be a good game, a good rivalry between us and Altus.”
Duncan’s boys lost at Ardmore 60-55 Dec. 3 while the girls lost 61-32. The Lone Grove game was rescheduled for Jan. 18.
The Demon swimmers, meanwhile, have had it rough this season, because four scheduled matches had been canceled for various reasons.
Their first two matches were canceled because the pool at The Simmons Center was closed because of maintenance issues. Duncan hosted a swim meet against Carl Albert and Midwest City Nov. 14, but a meet at Rose State Nov. 22 and a home meet Dec. 5 against Mustang had been canceled because of travel concerns relating to weather.
The Harrah meet was originally scheduled for Dec. 12 in Duncan, but was moved to Harrah, and scheduled for Tuesday, because the Simmons Center pool will be closed again. But travel concerns led to the Harrah meet being called off.
