Burton returning to Central High as head football coach

DUNCAN — There’s going to be a new but familiar look to the Central High Bronchos when they take the field for the 2013-14 season.

Former Comanche assistant coach Keith Burton will be turning in his red for Broncho blue, as he was announced as the new head coach of the Bronchos.

This will be Burton’s second stint as a member of the Central High football team, after serving on the coaching staff from 2001-2007.

“It feels really good,” Burton said about the thought of coaching eight-man football again. “Football is football to me, and I’ve coached eight-man football for close to 15 years now. It’s a more wide open style of play and a lot of fun to watch. This is something I’m very excited to start. When I was approached for the Central High coaching job I was very interested. Central High as a community has done a lot to make the school a much better place as a whole.”

Burton will inherit a Bronchos squad coming off a solid 2012 season, in which Central High won its first four games and made the playoffs.

Among the players returning this season will be Kevin Harris, John Repp, and quarterback Kade Taylor. Burton said he is very familiar with a lot of the kids on the squad and knows what kind of work ethic they are going to bring to the squad.

“These kids have some good character,” he said. “I’ve heard a lot of people talk about Kevin and the athletic ability he brings to the field. To get to work with this group of kids is going to be very fun and I really think we will be able to do some great things. It’s going to be a smooth transition for everyone, which can only make everything better and easier.”

Burton added while he was very sad to leave Comanche, Coach Steve Justus gave him a lot of support through the years.

“The people in Comanche and at every school I have been at have always been fantastic,” he said. “Coach Justus hated to see me go of course, but he understands that in coaching, change happens from time to time. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the Indians and I hope they have a lot of success this season.”

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
