DUNCAN — The Duncan volleyball team had the energy of a team playing in its season opener Monday night, but the experience of their opponent proved to be too much to overcome.

The Lady Demons dropped its first match of 2013 to Synder on the road, falling (25-8), (25-19), (25-14).

“There were just a lot of mental errors. We had a lot of nerves, especially early on,” Duncan head coach Sandy Mitchell said. “I found out after the game that they had all seniors playing and we’re a young team. I’m proud of the way we played and things will begin to click more for us as the season continues.”

After dropping its first game, the Lady Demons looked primed to respond with a victory. The team claimed a five-point lead in the second game, before Snyder recovered to earn the win.

“I told the team that we’re not going to win games when we give up leads like that,” Mitchell said. “But as a whole, we played well.”

The loss in Game 2 was too much for Duncan to recover from, as Snyder secured the win by taking Game 3.

Junior Rebecca Brewer led Duncan with two kills and sophomore Katherine Hruby finished with a team-high four aces. Sopomore Delaney Mitchell and Sarah Sutherland each finished with a block.
