Fall sports begin for area schools

DUNCAN — The wait is over. Fall sports in Stephens County is back.

The regular seasons of a handful of area teams will begin this week, with local softball and volleyball teams seeing their first action.

But the week’s main attraction will come on the gridiron, with the Duncan football team holding the Demon Preview Scrimmage at 8 p.m.. Saturday.

The Duncan softball team begins its journey to get back to the Class 5A State Tournament Tuesday when it visits Noble at 5:30 p.m. The team’s first home game will then take place two days later, as it will host Southeast at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Demons finish the week at home against Ardmore at 5 p.m.

Softball season will also get going this week. Velma-Alma and Marlow will open their seasons against one another in Marlow today at 5 p.m. The Lady Outlaws then head to Shawnee for the Tuttle Tournament Thursday.

Comanche will also hit the road for the Davis Tournament Thursday, while Waurika and Velma will head north to play in Central High’s annual tournament this weekend, played at the school’s softball field.

After opening against Snyder Monday, the Duncan Lady Demons volleyball team will continue with a game at Cement Thursday at 4 p.m. and action at the Cameron Tournament this weekend.
