MARLOW — While the weather outside might have been hot, the Velma-Alma Lady Comets offense was scorching Monday night at Southwest Park.

Against the Comanche Lady Indians, V-A used a five run second inning to propel itself to an 8-3 victory in summer league action.

Lyndsie Carroll and Mikayla Wilson added the final two runs of the game for the Lady Comets when they both scored courtesy of wild pitches in the bottom of the third inning, but the real damage was done well before then.

Facing a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the second inning, Wilson got the Lady Comets rally started when she scored on a walk to make it 3-2.

Carroll then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3, before Jordan Layn slapped an RBI single through the left side to give Velma-Alma the lead.

Jesse Anderson and Shaylee Jensen each added RBI singles of their own to make it a 6-3 game.

Comanche though put up a fight in the top of the second inning, when Hunter Shelby tied the game at 1-1 with a fielder’s choice RBI.

Baylee Morgan then collected two RBI when she got on base courtesy of a throwing error at first base to make it 3-1.

Carly Richardson got the win for the Lady Comets, pitching three innings of work.

Comanche was in action against Marlow, while V-A faced Sterling in the late games Monday night at Southwest Park.
