Just when the fast pitch softball summer league was starting to heat up, it was the cold and rainy conditions in the Stephens County area that prevailed Monday afternoon.
With heavy rain taking place Sunday and Monday, games at Marlow’s Southwest Park were rescheduled because of wet conditions at the park’s field Monday.
Week 2 games have been rescheduled for Thursday afternoon.
“There was still parts of the field underwater,” Marlow coach Brian Miller said. “We knew if we held the games later in the week it would be much safer conditions for the players to compete in.”
Local rivals Comanche and Velma-Alma had been slated to face off, while Marlow had been scheduled to take on Waurika and face Chattanooga.
The league’s opening week saw Stephens County teams get off to a strong start, as V-A beat county foe Comanche 13-2 and Marlow overwhelmed Lindsay 16-1. Velma-Alma also rallied to defeat Sterling 4-3 in its earlier game.
In the weeks to come, games will take place every Monday through August 5. Along with the four Stephens County teams, Elgin, Sterling, Lindsay, Walters, Ninnekah and Chattanooga are playing in the league.
