DUNCAN — Runners and walkers will take to the streets of Duncan Sunday morning, as the Simmons Center will host the 18th annual Stampede 5KRun/Walk and 10K Run starting at 8 a.m..

The race is scheduled to commence at the north end of the center at 800 Chisholm Trail Parkway and the race’s route will take participants around the town.

All proceeds from the event will be directed to the Simmons Center Community Spirit Program, which provides assistance with the payment of recreationpasses and recreation memberships to members of the community. Since its inception in 2003, the program has benefited more than 7,000 members in the community while assisting with more than 100 events.

Sunday’s event will be sanctioned by USA Track and Field, meaning that all times will be recorded and entered into a database.

Trophies will be presented to the top finishers in each age group, and all participants will receive a medal and a T-shirt. Door prizes will also be available, courtesy of local sponsors around town.

Hopes for the event’s turnout are high, with at least 120 runners expected to participate.

Registration for the event will happen right before the race, from 7:00-7:45 the Convention Lobby North Entrance of the Simmons Center. Participation in the 5KWalk/Run will cost $25 before Sunday and $30 on Race Day while the 10K is $30 before Sunday and $35 on Race Day.
