VELMA — Comanche dominated Bray-Doyle in 82-27 victory in the first round of the Stephens County boys tournament.
With the win Comanche will face Marlow in the semifinals. The other spot in the final will be decided by the result of the Velma-Alma versus Central High game.
Comanche didn't make it look easy in the early part of the game, struggling to assert itself against the underdog Donkeys. Coach Nick Price emphasized the need for the team to come out stronger next time.
"We just don't start out games the same way we finish," Price said. "We didn't start out the way we wanted to, but we did a good job of getting it under control."
The Indians didn't struggle for too long, though. They were able to put their foot down on the accelerator towards the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Braden Ledford's enthusiasm didn't hurt that cause. He forced turnovers on defense and scored fast break points on offense to help put the game into blowout mode.
"He's one of the kids on our team that can really help make us go, got a lot of enegry and always plays hard," Price said.
