DUNCAN — Jack Braught, who hails from Duncan High School, is a freshman kicker on the Oklahoma Sooners football team. Though he doesn’t play, he has seen the ups and downs of this turblent season. From losing to Texas to upsetting Oklahoma State to being selected for a Sugar Bowl berth, Braught has been part of it all. He talked with John McKelvey, sports reporter for The Duncan Banner, about the team’s success and how he feels about his first season in college football.

John McKelvey: Being from a small town, what is it like being part of the national spotlight at a program like Oklahoma?

Jack Braught: It’s pretty remarkable. There’s several guys, not just me, that are from small towns. It’s awesome to see kids excel in what they love to do and get to levels like this.

JM: How does it feel to be part of the OU football team after growing up in Oklahoma?

JB: It’s everything. Both my parents went to OU and I grew up loving Oklahoma football. To be a part of it, it’s a whole other level in my mind. I absolutely love it.

JM: What was it like to be a part of the Bedlam win?

JB: It was probably the most fun and coolest game I’ve ever seen and been a part of. So many of my buddies from high school are going to OSU and talking to them, seeing what they had to say about the game, it was fun to see my school beat their school.

JM: What about practice? What is it like to be on the field with some of these NFL-caliber players everyday?

JB: It’s fun to watch. They make you play at a different level. You want to do the best you can everyday, and it’s a whole other level. You just want to be able to compete everyday.

JM: What has all this success been like, for this team to reach a BCS bowl? What is it like to be part of that?

JB: It’s been remarkable, because even before I got here, people were starting to say it was going to be a rebuilding year. I think it’s awesome to see the adversity these guys have come over, and the way they have stepped it up to make it this far.
