DUNCAN — Once again, the Class 5A boys cross country field was strong.

Duncan’s boys had a good showing, taking fourth as a team with 131 points, four points behind third-place Coweta. Deer Creek won the meet with 36 points and Tahlequah was second with 94.

Demon boys coach Todd Ledford noted that the top four teams finished in the same order they did last year.

“We knew going in it would be really tough,” Ledford said.

He added that Deer Creek has a dynasty going, having won the Class 5A boys meet six of the past eight years.

Walker Clampitt ran his best time of the season, clocking in at 16:10 for a second-place finish. Mason Bivens came in fourth in 16:44.

Malachi Spann placed in the top 30, running 17:34 to finish 28th. The rest of the times and placings were Justin Morris, 54th in 18:19; Taber Kaspereit, 65th in 18:28; Jesse Bachman, 73rd in 18:41; and Will Hicks, 96th in 19:31.

“We ran real well from top to bottom,” Ledford said. “I thought the kids went out and performed well.”

On the girls side, Mattie Bivens finished with a time of 12:55 to place 14th.

“She ran really well,” said girls coach Dale Harris. “I’m very proud of her. It was a heck of a run for a freshman.”

Harris added Bivens and the other returning runners should give the Lady Demons a good base to build a quality team next season.
