The Duncan Banner
Marlow’s focus this week will be on stopping the run as Blanchard senior running back Braden Stringer has already amassed more than 1,000 rushing yards this season.
Part of a one-two punch that includes senior quarterback Blake Owen, Stringer has been the feature back every coach wants. On Friday, Marlow (4-1, 1-1) coach Rob Renshaw wants to shut him down. Stopping the run continues to be first priority as the Outlaws take on the Lions (5-0, 2-0).
“We’re going to stop the run,” Renshaw said. “They’re a one dimensional team. I don’t know that anybody has really tried to sell out and stop the run. They’re good up front, but that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to make them try to throw it. If we can do that, we’ve got a good chance.”
In other games this weekend:
* Duncan (2-2, 2-0) vs. Ardmore (4-1, 2-0): The two teams first played each other in 1922, with Ardmore winning 27-0. Since then, Ardmore has won 49 of the 90 outings between the teams. The Tigers are coming off a key District 1-5A win against Del City last week, 29-20. But the Demons are coming off a strong defensive showing in a 34-14 win at Altus.
* Comanche (3-2, 2-0) at Lindsay (3-2, 2-0): Comanche routed Mangum with a 46-18 homecoming victory last Friday. The Indians will be looking to run over Lindsay with senior quarterback Hunter Rice, but the Leopards come in with plenty of momentum after three straight wins.
* Empire (4-1, 2-0) at Healdton (2-3, 1-1): Getting junior running back Dillion Twigg off to a fast start will be the key for Empire. Despite getting off to a slow start in its last two games, Empire rallied behind Twigg to win both contests. On the other side, Healdton heads into the game with a lot of frustration after getting trounced at home by Ringling, 60-0.
* Central High (5-0, 4-0) at Geary (1-4, 1-3): The Bronchos have their biggest test of the season against Fox next week, but can’t afford to become complacent and overlook Geary. The main focus will be getting senior running back Kevin Harris the ball. He scored a touchdown everytime he touched the ball in last week’s 46-0.
