DUNCAN — It turns out that a little break was all the Lady Demons soccer team needed to take their game to the next level.

Playing its first game in more than a week, Duncan came out and got a measure of revenge against Classen SAS Thursday night, shutting out the Lady Comets 2-0 in the first round of the Chickasha Invitational at Hampton Field.

The Lady Demons have now won two straight games , including a 2-1 victory over Lawton Eisenhower before spring break.

“These girls played better today then they have all year,” Duncan coach Delydia Gay said. “It was a great game and just what we needed in our first contest following spring break.”

Stephanie Wainwright got the Lady Demons in front in the first half, when she beat Classen SAS’ goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation to slot home the goal.

Courtney Moore then scored in very familiar fashion in the second half, as she connected with a rocket from outside the box to give the Lady Demons a 2-0 advantage, which they would never relinquish.

DHS goalkeeper Maddy Williams collected her first shutout of the season in the net, as the Lady Demons improved their record to 3-1 overall this season.

“Anytime you can get a shutout is a huge confidence boost for the girls,” Gay said. “This was against a good team so it’s not only going to help Maddy but everyone else as well. I told the girls it’s all uphill from here and there’s no going back now.”

Duncan will next play Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against Class 4A Harrah, who is ranked No. 8 in the state.

HHS claimed a victory over Bridge Creek in the first round on Thursday.
