Comanche wrestlers easily take dual

COMANCHE — Comanche coach Jason Miller knew that, going into Tuesday’s match, the Indians had a numbers advantage over Pauls Valley.

That meant the Indians took several forfeit victories in the 59-12 dual victory. Miller had some of his freshmen compete in the junior high match so they would have a chance to wrestle, and not take more forfeits in the high school match.

“I could have left the other four kids I had in for the forfeits, but when you know you will win, there is no reason to put the points on them like that,” Miller said.

As for the matches that took place, Miller said he wants to see sharper performances. He noted there were several instances in which his wrestlers held advantages, but allowed Pauls Valley wrestlers a reversal or near fall when they didn’t have to.

“We wrestled sloppy,” the Comanche coach said. “I could find some good things in everybody, but I could find faults in everybody.”

Miller added, though, that the wrestlers were just coming off Christmas break and some team members didn’t compete in the Cushing tournament this past weekend. He said he expects the wrestlers to get better with more mat time.

At the same time, Miller wants his wrestlers to remember the importance of securing pinfalls in duals to get the points they bring.

Comanche’s junior high wrestlers will head to Pauls Valley Friday and Saturday for a tournament. Miller said the tourney will be a good chance to get the younger wrestlers some confidence and build toward the future of the high school program.

As for the high school wrestlers, their next action will be Jan. 17-18 when they head to a tournament in Tuttle.
