Outlaws ousted from playoffs by Seminole

SEMINOLE — SEMINOLE — For the Marlow Outlaws, it was a special game, their first playoff game in five years. For Seminole, it was just the first step toward the state title.

The Chieftains cruised into the next round of the Class 3A playoffs behind a huge first-half performance by running back Trent Newson, topping Marlow, 59-7.

Newson rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns. When Newson was catching his breath, the Chieftains put Pappi White into the running back slot, and came up with 46 yards rushing and three first-half touchdowns, one being a 71-yard punt return.

Marlow showed some spark on offense after recovering a Seminole fumble on the game’s first possession.  Outlaw quarterback Wakley Bergner kept it going as he hit wide receiver Kelby Richardson for a 34 yard gain, but the Seminole defense stiffened, forcing the Outlaws to punt.

Throughout the game, the Chieftains' defensive front kept the Outlaw offense from getting any momentum.

Injuries forced the Outlaws to put several players in different spots than usual, and while their experience was limited, the effort never was, all the way to the final whistle.

The Outlaws were held out of the endzone until the fourth quarter, when fullback Mike McGrew scored on an 11-yard run.

Seminole quarterback Doc Harvey Ran for 20 yards and threw for 122 yards and a TD.  His favorite target, Xavier Freeman, came up with receptions of 50 yards and a 39-yard TD.

“We are real proud that we made the playoffs and looking forward to next year," said first-year Marlow head coach Rob Renshaw. "It was a place for us to start and where we need to get to.  There is a lot of things to build upon, a lot of positives, we are going to try and get better and better every day.”

The Outlaws lose ten seniors from this team but will have 13 juniors returning to provide the leadership that Coach Renshaw talked about, preparing for the offseason workouts.
