DUNCAN — Former Velma-Alma star Corbin Byford is hoping to make his college basketball debut today as Oral Roberts opens its season against UTEP.

The freshman forward missed the team’s two exhibition games with a sprained ankle.

Coach Scott Sutton said he expects to have Byford in the lineup tonight.

If Byford is at full strength, he could see significant time on the floor after Sutton said he was “in our top seven” after a few weeks of practice.

Marlow native Barry Hinson will officially begin his tenure at Southern Illinois on Monday as his Salukis take on New Orleans on Monday.

Hinson has remained in college basketball in recent years, but in a non-coaching capacity at Kansas. Monday’s game will mark his return to coaching.
