Chalk one up to Mother Nature. Or Jack Frost.
The area sports calendar is in disarray after weather shut down area high schools and power throughout the area Thursday and the early hours of Friday morning.
Some schools have gone through the motions of setting tentative dates to reschedule games but should power outages extend through early next week, it will become harder to get games in with district and regional tournaments fast approaching.
Duncan High School’s basketball game against Ardmore has been moved tentatively to Monday. Should that game not be able to be played Monday, both teams are looking at playing that game Feb. 12.
“I wouldn’t bet on Monday night with the power being out,” Duncan Athletic Director Burl White said. “We definitely want to play them here.”
“The wrestling tournament at Chickasha was canceled and can’t be rescheduled.”
A date to reschedule the swimming meet that was canceled Thursday had not been turned into the AD office as of Friday morning.
Comanche canceled both of its weekend basketball games and moved Friday nights game against Madill to the week of the regional tournament. Saturday nights game against Velma-Alma was moved to Feb. 6.
Empire was still in the process of rescheduling its high school games and was checking with the OSSAA about moving its junior high conference tournament to Wednesday.
Other cancellation information was not available at press time.
