DUNCAN —
Duncan’s dirty laundry smelled like roses to the Area All-Stars in Tuesday night’s Stephens County Youth Association Youth Football All-Star Game.
The Demons had two touchdowns called back because of penalties and came up short on four trips to the red zone in a 14-6 loss to the Area team.
Marlow’s Jonathan Schufelt sealed the win for the area with an interception at the Area one yard line with less than a minute remaining in the game. Offensively, Braedon O’Dell of Marlow scored both touchdowns and was named the Area Skill Player of the Game. Caymen McNair was named the Area Lineman of the Game.
Sarian Smith was named Duncan Skill Player of the Game and Dustin Gadbow was named the Offensive Player of the Game.
The Area took the lead in quick fashion, scoring on the second play from scrimmage. O’Dell beat the Duncan defense to the corner and carried it in on a 51-yard touchdown run. Easton Huddleston found Blaine Richardson open for the two-point conversion and a 7-0 lead.
Duncan wasted no time in answering, scoring on its first possession. Aaron Haley hit Hunter Kelly on a key third down conversion and Duncan converted a fourth down conversion to move deep into the Area side of the field. Cy Calhoun took the scoring honors, carrying it in from three-yards out for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was wide, leaving the score 7-6.
Duncan’s defense turned it around after the first drive and held the Area in check. Offensively, Duncan was able to move the ball down the field behind the running of Smith, it just couldn’t get in the end zone. And when it did, penalties brought the ball back.
The Demons moved the ball to the Area three yard line with seconds remaining in the half but a missed field goal left the Demons empty-handed at the end of the first half.
The Area extended its lead late in the third quarter when O’Dell scored a touchdown on a two-yard run. The conversion run by Anthony Green put Duncan into a 14-6 hole. Duncan put the ball into
scoring position twice more in the game.
The first time, the Demons reached the 15 before turning it over on downs. After forcing a three-and-out, Duncan took possession and drove down the field on the running of Connor Kinnaird but an interception ended the threat, and the game.
Suiting up for Duncan in the game was Sarian Smith, Dathan Speight, Aaron Haley, Logan Patterson, Connor Kinnaird, Darius Standridge, Jon McGill, Hunter Kelly, Dustin Gadbow, Tyler Bowes, Cy Calhoun, Jared Hudson, Lane Presswood, Blake Conway, Dustin Chase, Jacob Rickman, Jakob Seibert, Scott Jones, Arizona James, Spencer Grice, Conner Carpenter, Jordan Lilly, Austin May, Collin Klingensmith, Caleb Smith, Andrew Ulmer, Zane Lemons, Gage Weems, Hayden Moore, Taylor Nix and Tylor Hicks.
