The Central High Gold team improved to 7-2 on the year in the 14U softball league with a 9-1 win over the After Shock.

The Lady Bronchos got off to a fast start when leadoff hitter Caitlyn White singled to start the game. White stole two bases and scored when Kaylee DeFores grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Kasey Mullen finished off the top half of the first with an inside the park home run.

Christa Sparks took the mound for the Gold in the bottom half of the inning only to allow one base runner when Jade Bowan hit a single up the middle. Sparks only faced four batters before retiring the After Shock.

Pitcher Chyan Houston found a rhythm in the top of the second allowing only one base runner while striking out two Gold team members. Jani Hawkley was the only Central High Gold player to reach base with a single.

Sparks returned to the mound in the bottom of the second and dominated the After Shock. She allowed one base runner in Cali Pennypacker before striking out the other three batters she faced.

Houston continued to look solid in the top of the third, retiring the side in order. However the Afte Shock were unable to get anything going in the bottom half of the inning as they went down in order.

The Central High Gold opened up a large lead in the top of the fourth as they batted around. Mullen started the inning off with a double. She was moved over to third when Laura-Lynn Loomy hit a shot to center. Allison Vandever followed with a bases clearing triple to put the Gold up 4-0.

Sparks continued the rally when she plated Vandever on a fielder’s choice. Lacey Phillips hit a single to center to reach base. White continued her night with a single

advancing Phillips. The Gold then scored three more runs off walks and hit batters. The inning ended because the maximum number of runs had been reached.

The After Shock were able to muster up their only run of the game when Kaylee Jennings was hit by a pitch and then reached home on a passed-ball.

Sparks finished the night with five strikeouts for the Central High Gold.

Also suiting up for the Central High Gold was Jani Hawkley.

The After Shock also featured Brittany Doucet, Sara McCormick, McKenzie Craig, Kiersten Marton and Tiana Jones.
