Area track athletes earn state medals

Classes A through 4A held their state track meets over the weekend with several local athletes earning state medals.

MUSTANG — At the Class 2A meet, Velma-Alma’s Dillon Morgan brought home an individual state title in the pole vault, clearing 13-0 and earning 10 points for the Comets.

Jacob Rankin added a state runner-up finish in the discus with a 126-08 toss, while Keith Firestone tossed 124-08 for fourth.

The Comets totaled 22 points and finished ninth overall.

Rush Springs’ Kevin Gillis took fifth in the long jump at 20-6.5.

The Lady Comets scored 16 points and finished 14th overall.

They were led by a pair of runner-up finishes from Micah Thompson and Laurean Dennis. Thompson tossed 110-11 in the discus and Dennis cleared 9-0 in the pole vault.



Class A

MUSTANG — The Waurika Lady Eagles finished 15th behind a pair of strong performances from Megan Hall.

Hall finished fourth in the 1600-meter run, crossing at 5:50.53. Hall also earned a state runner-up finish in the 3200 at 12:56.39.

For Waurika’s boys, Matt Henderson took home a pair of sixth-place finishes in the shot put and discus.

Henderson threw 43-2.5 in the shot and 127-02 in the disc.



CLASS 4A

TULSA — A pair of Marlow Lady Outlaws earned state medals, with Heather Smith taking fifth in the pole vault at 8-6, and Samantha Manke took sixth in the discus at 111-08.

Casey Price earned a medal for Marlow’s boys, taking fifth in the 110 hurdles at 15.98.
