VELMA – Several area athletes will be going to the Class 2A and Class A track meet at Mustang High School Friday and Saturday.

The top three placers from every event advance to the state meet.

Class 2A Regional

In the team competition, Waurika’s Lady Eagles were ninth with 28 points, while Velma-Alma was 10th at 25. Empire placed 12th with 18 team points.

Empire’s Natalie Whitt placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 13.61.

Waurika’s Megan Hall was first in the 800 run with a time of 2:36.60, and Velma-Alma’s Yana Bashura was sixth in 2:47.68.

The Lady Eagles’ Susanna Ruiz was fifth in 6:49.33, while WHS’ Veronica Ruiz took fourth in the 3200 run in 15:18.91.

Kayla Salazar placed fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.76.

Empire’s Whitney Null was fifth in 300 hurdles in 53.55.

The Lady Bulldogs 400 relay team of White, Shana Schlein, Null and Jessica England placed sixth in 55.47.

The Lady Comets placed fifth in the 1600 relay, as Jennifer Harden, Kalie Aldridge, Bashura and Jaclyn Fore finished in 4:38.40, while Waurika’s Salazar, Megan Law, Hall and Kacee Daily were sixth in 4:39.78.

The Lady Comets team of Aldridge, Harden for and Bashura were fourth in 11:03.28, and WHS’ Katy Law, Hall, Daily and Susana Ruiz were sixth in a clip of 11:12.14.

Velma-Alma’s Laurean Dennis was tops in the pole vault with a height of 9-0, and Empire’s Ryan Rothner placed fourth at 6-0.

Whitt came in fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15-05. Empire’s Mary Adkinson finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 32-03.

Waurika’s Rebecca Hegwood placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 95-11, while Dennis was fifth (97-05.5).

On the boys’ side, Velma-Alma finished as the runner up with 74 points, just behind Stratford which scored 103. Waurika came in sixth with 34 points. Empire was 14th with nine points, eight of those points came from Stephen Fish’s second-place finish in the pole vault with a 14-0 height.

Cory Jackson accounted for the other EHS point with a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.38.

Josh Loveall took first in the 800 run in 2:06.09, while teammate Will McEwan was fourth in 2:10.19.

Waurika’s Alex Castnello placed fifth in the 3200 run in 12:22.80, and fellow Eagle Lucas Coody was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 45.32.

Velma-Alma’s 400 relay team of John Darter, Kyle Tilley, Josh Hensley and Jacob Rankin were third in 47.68. The Comets continued a strong run in the 1600 relay, as Loveall, McEwan, Dillon Allred and Rankin finished first in 3:33.13.

In the 3200 relay, Loveall, Allred, McEwan and Kyle Dulworth finished first in 8:40.68.

Waurika’s Chance Armstrong and Matt Henderson both advanced to state in the shot put. Armstrong placed second with a throw of 42-01, while Henderson was third (40-08).

Armstrong will also participate in the discus at state after finishing first with a distance of 137-10. Velma-Alma’s Kyle Firestone was second (136-06.50), while Henderson was third (124-0.50).

Class A Regional

Bray-Doyle’s Lady Donkey’s finished ninth overall with 21 team points, while Ryan was 13th with six points. Central High was 16th with one point.

Bray-Doyle’s Rachel Gates crossed the finish line in the 400 run in 1:07.48 for fifth. Gates was first in the high jump with a 5-0 leap. She then finished third in the long jump with a distance of 15-0.

Central high’s Billie Powell was sixth in the 800 run with a time of 3:57.58.

Jessie Jolly of Bray-Doyle placed fifth in the 1600 run in 6:55.82. Jolly was also sixth in the 3200 run in 1:08.77.

Ryan’s Shaylee Kimbro placed third in the discus with a throw of 80-0.

On the boys’ side, Central High was ninth with 15 points, while Ryan was 13th with 5.66 points.

Ryan’s Josh Collier finished sixth in the 200 run with a time of 24.48. He placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19-01.50.

Central High’s charge was led by Austin Brackeen, who finished fifth in the 1600 run (5:01.21), and first in the 3200 run in a clip of 10:39.76.

The Bronchos’ Matthew Landoll was fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-04.
