The Lady Donkeys broke a close game against Ringling wide open in the final quarter to pick up a 56-30 win Tuesday night. Sarah Justus had a break-out game with 26 points to lead Bray-Doyle and Shelbi Copeland tacked on 12.

“Our point guard was out sick so our seniors really stepped up,” Bray-Doyle coach Jaicee Powers said. “The rest of the girls really stepped up to fill that role. It was a good win for us.

“It gave the girls the opportunity to play in different positions and get some experience in those positions. That will help us in the playoffs if we get in foul trouble.”

Bray-Doyle will be in action Friday when it hosts Ryan for Homecoming.

Bray-Doyle boys 62, Ringling 25

BRAY — The Donkeys rebounded from their loss to Velma-Alma in the Stephens County championship with a 62-25 win over Ringling. Bray-Doyle took it to the Blue Devils from the start, jumping out to a 34-12 halftime lead.

“We played well and shot the ball well,” Bray-Doyle coach Darian Dickson said. “We made 11 3-pointers. After shooting the ball poorly against Velma-Alma, we came in and talked about our outside shooting and we did well.”

Gage Williams led Bray-Doyle in scoring with 15 points. Corbin Byford had 14 and Hayden Dickson finished with 11. Logan Mayes rounded the leading scorers with 11 points.

The Donkeys improved to 14-4 with the win.

Healdton boys 45, Velma-Alma 44

VELMA — The Velma-Alma Comets let one slip away in the fourth quarter as they fell to Healdton 45-44. Turnovers proved costly as the Comets dropped their second game of the year to the Bulldogs against one win.

“We had five turnovers on the last seven possessions and lost a four-point lead,” Velma-Alma coach Kenny Bare said. “It was flat tonight.

“Healdton is a good team and we knew what we were getting into. We played bad the first half, came back and had a chance to put it away. It was a good learning tool for us.”

Dallen Mercer scored 13 points to lead Velma-Alma. Dillon Dennis and Frank Johnson each had 10 and Kale Gayanich finished with eight. The Comets are 14-3 on the season and will host Ringling Friday night in a Homecoming contest.
