The Duncan Demons, ranked second in Class 5A, weren’t friendly hosts as they took the Lawton Wolverines, 8-0, in five innings.

Duncan sophomore Tyler King pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits and walking two.

“Tyler was solid today,” DHS head coach Tim Hightower said after the win. “We put the ball in play, and good things happen when you put the ball in play.”

Duncan put the game out of reach with six runs in the bottom of the third inning after starting the inning with a 2-0 lead.

Trevor Suffal and Cory Lillard were hit by pitches to start the inning. Lillard was forced out at second when King grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Greg Davis drove in Suffal with a single for a 3-0 edge, and Kyle Payne singled in Colby Snider, who was King’s courtesy runner, to up DHS’ lead to 4-0.

Trent Wilkins came up with another single to push in Davis, and Sheylon Roberson recorded Duncan’s fourth single of the inning for a 6-0 lead.

Brandon Graham, who was the courtesy runner for Wilkins, and Roberson scored on a double by Kale Murphree for an 8-0 edge.

“We took advanatage of their mistakes, and then got some hits with runners on,” noted Hightower.

In the second inning, King doubled to lead off with a double, and a single by Davis put runners at the corners. Payne reached a on fielder’s choice that had Snider out at home. Jared Smith singled to load the bases. Davis scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 Duncan advantage, and Payne scored on an error.

“Tyler got us going in the second inning with a double, and Greg Davis hit the ball well for us,” Hightower said.

Davis led the Demons with a 2-for-2, while Wilkins and Roberson were 2-for-3.

Hightower was also pleased with the defensive play of his squad.

“Vince Linke played well at shortstop,” he said. “He made some routine plays, and one great one. We played good defense all the way around.”

The win lifted DHS to 25-6 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

DHS will complete its regular home slate at 4 p.m. Thursday against Lawton Eisenhower. The Demons will complete Tuesday’s game that was halted due to Weather conditions.
