    With softball safely on the sidelines and basketball still on the horizon, football will get another partner on the sports schedule.
    The Duncan swimming team will open its season today at the Simmons Center when it hosts Westmoore, Midwest City, Del City and Carl Albert. As a team, the girls led the way last season but with a strong group of boys, led by state placer Austin Bowles, it will be the boys that will carry the banner for the Demons early in the season as the girls build up experience.

  • Top honors
    Throughout the softball season, Comanche senior Shayna Milam was the straw that stirred the drink for the Lady Indians.
    In honor of her contributions to the team and her success in conference play, Milam was named the Lake Country Conference Pitcher of the Year.

  • Call out for basketball officials
    Those looking for a hobby for the winter need look no further than the Driver’s Education building at Duncan High School.
    Tonight, the Southwest Oklahoma Basketball Officials Association will hold an area meeting to go over part one of the test and address rule changes for the upcoming season. The meeing is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

  • Velma appoints new mayor and councilman
    The town of Velma had a new mayor and council member appointed during Tuesday’s regular town council meeting.
    Shawn Enloe was the Vice-Mayor, and became acting mayor after Winston Dumas had to resign due to scheduling conflicts.

  • Breaking through
    A new bar was set for the Duncan volleyball program this season as the Lady Demons set a school record with 24 wins. With everyone returning next season, Duncan should be in good shape to venture into new frontiers.
