Church Briefs offer glimpse of weekend, upcoming activities

DUNCAN — First Baptist Church Comanche

Toby Walker, interim pastor at First Baptist Church in Comanche, will take his topic, “Running toward God,” from Jonah 2 during the Sunday morning service. Afternoon and evening activities on Sunday include choir practice at 4:30, youth programs at 5 and evening worship at 6. Loops of Love group for women working on knit and crochet projects, meet at 3 p.m., Tuesdays. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, youngsters and teens fellowship and Teamkids and youth Bible study. Adults meet in the auditorium for Wednesday’s prayer service. Church office hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday; for information, call the church at 580-439-5335.

City Heights Baptist Church

Pastor Billy Ward will be preaching both services at City Heights Baptist Church this Sunday. The morning message will be “How God Prevails” from 1 Samuel 17:48. Bill Greer will lead the music. Brenda Petty will sing. The evening message will be “Giving God the Glory” from Acts 14:10. June Ward will bring music.

New Hope Baptist Church West

Dr. Bruce McCray will lead Friend Day Revival Sunday. He will bring the Sunday morning and evening messages with music by Paul Hughes in the morning service.

For 26 years Bruce McCray has been a pastor serving in a new testament church. The past 19 years he pastored First Baptist Church of Elmore City. Earlier this year, his pastoral duties led him to serve as a chaplain for hospice care. He is employed by Cross Timbers Hospice in Ardmore. His life verse has become Romans 8:28. He has a PhD from Louisiana Baptist University in marriage and family counseling.

Wednesday service and activities include prayer time at 5:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. Sanctuary Bible study.

First Baptist Church

Duncan

 The congregation and staff of First Baptist Church, Duncan, encourage everyone to attend Sunday to hear Dr. Bryan Pain share the message of God’s word.

The call to worship will be “Blessed Be Your Name.” In honor of Veterans Day, the children will present “Salute To America” performed by First Kids Choir. DPS students and Children’s Shelter youth will benefit from the donations of warm winter clothing.

Save the date for “A 1940’s Christmas Homecoming” presented at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. This is a dessert theater format and will be presented in the Family Life Center at FBC. For information call the church office at 580-252-5885.

  • OACD, Oklahoma Conference of Churches pair up for ‘drought prayer’

    Oklahomans are being asked to focus on water conservation and stewardship and continue to keep drought-affected areas in their thoughts. A state-wide day of prayer has been set for 6 p.m. Sept. 18, backed by Oklahoma Conservation Districts, Oklahoma Conference of Churches and Whole Creation Community partnership.

    Almost everyone has at least one defining experience in their life which makes them take a closer look at all the beliefs they hold.
    For Michael Shank, author of “Muscle and a Shovel,” his came when he attended a Bible study taught by a former co-worker only revealed as Randall.
    Shank will share his story Sunday, Sept. 1, in three services at Eastside Church of Christ.
    Services will be open to the public and are at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
