5-10 Church Briefs

DUNCAN —

  •  Gospel Tabernacle Church

Gospel Tabernacle Church will host a BBQ dinner and gospel concert Saturday to benefit Julie Neathery. Julie has Narrow Angle Glaucoma and has an urgent need for eye surgery. Proceeds from both the dinner and the free will offering received at the concert will go to help pay for that surgery.

The meal will be served from 4 - 5:45 p.m. and will include a BBQ sandwich, chips and a cold drink for $5. The concert will begin at 6 with a nationally known group, the Williamsons, local talent Jessica Farmer and a relatively new local group called One Tree performing.

  •  Western Heights Baptist Church

Next week the seniors have a lot planned. The Ladies II class will have their monthly luncheon at 11:30 Tuesday and then Thursday a road trip has been planned.

Worship with our Minister of Music, Tony Hooper, begins at 10:50 a.m. followed by a sermon by Pastor Chris Percival.

In Sunday school, the adult classes are in week 11 of the Exploring the Bible study guide.  The Children’s class is studying in the Book of Acts and learning about how our church began. Home school Band Practice starts at 11 a.m. Thursday mornings in the fellowship hall.

  •  West Side Christian Church

 Rev. Terry Schlein’s sermon will be “Today’s Mother,” based on Luke 1:26; and he will speak to the children about “Showing Your Mother Love,” based on 1 John 4:9. The West Side Women will sing “A Mother’s Prayer.” Also included in the service will be a clarinet solo by Jack Hulme and a special Pentecost offering.

Meetings this week will include the 5 p.m. youth group Sunday, the 6 p.m. stewardship team Monday, the 6:30 p.m. elders and diaconate Tuesday, and the 7 p.m. leadership team Tuesday.

The monthly fellowship supper will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fare will be pot luck.

Sunday Service by Reverend Sue Trei-Conrad will be titled “The Right Story, The Right Song” based on John 17:20. A nursery is available. Everyone is invited for worship at 10:45 a.m. Birthday Lunch Wednesday, May 15. Youth Food Harvest Sunday May 19 “SOUP”.

  • OACD, Oklahoma Conference of Churches pair up for ‘drought prayer’

    Oklahomans are being asked to focus on water conservation and stewardship and continue to keep drought-affected areas in their thoughts. A state-wide day of prayer has been set for 6 p.m. Sept. 18, backed by Oklahoma Conservation Districts, Oklahoma Conference of Churches and Whole Creation Community partnership.

    Almost everyone has at least one defining experience in their life which makes them take a closer look at all the beliefs they hold.
    For Michael Shank, author of “Muscle and a Shovel,” his came when he attended a Bible study taught by a former co-worker only revealed as Randall.
    Shank will share his story Sunday, Sept. 1, in three services at Eastside Church of Christ.
    Services will be open to the public and are at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
