6-28 Church Briefs


  •  Unitarian Universalist Church of Lawton

“The Next Step” is a program designed to meet the needs of former foster care youth and homeless young adults between the ages of 18 and 21. Onreka Givens of the University of Oklahoma National Resource Center for Youth will be the speaker Sunday to talk about “The Next Step” program.

  •  First Presbyterian

Sunday service by Rev. Sue Trei-Conrad will be titled “Hide and Seek,” based on 2 Kings 2:1-2, 6-14. A nursery is available. Inside Ministry will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Church office will be closed July 4, Happy Holiday. Movie Night will be  at 7 p.m. Saturday in Fellowship Hall.

  •  Saint Paul’s United Methodist

Everyone is invited to join Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church this Sunday. Adult Sunday School continues a study of Max Lucado’s book on Grace, followed by morning worship. At 6:30 p.m. Thursdays is Senior Game Night. If you have questions or need information, call 580-255-2538.

  •  Western Heights Baptist

VBS preparations are in full swing. WHBC will kick off VBS from 6-8:30 p.m. July 7 with a family fun and pre-registration night. There will be a bounce house, games, food and tons of fun.

The next morning will launch the colossal coaster from the platfrom and teach kids how to make it through the twists and turns of life with God by their sides. VBS is 9-11:30 a.m. July 9-12. Friday will close with a Family Day around lunch time with a program so the children can showcase their talents and what they have learned throughout the week.

  •  Comanche First Baptist

Pastor Toby Walker will complete his interim on Sunday, with Marcia Hart as music director and Scott Pitts, song leader. Evening activities include choir practice at 4 p.m., youth meetings at 5p.m., followed by worship. An appreciation fellowship for Bro. Walker and his wife, Janet, will follow the evening service.

On Wednesdays, Loops of Love knit and crochet time is from 10 a.m. until noon. Prayer service, Youth Bible Study and Teamkids each begin at 6 p.m.

Church office hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, call the church at 580-439-5335.

  • OACD, Oklahoma Conference of Churches pair up for ‘drought prayer’

    Oklahomans are being asked to focus on water conservation and stewardship and continue to keep drought-affected areas in their thoughts. A state-wide day of prayer has been set for 6 p.m. Sept. 18, backed by Oklahoma Conservation Districts, Oklahoma Conference of Churches and Whole Creation Community partnership.

    Almost everyone has at least one defining experience in their life which makes them take a closer look at all the beliefs they hold.
    For Michael Shank, author of “Muscle and a Shovel,” his came when he attended a Bible study taught by a former co-worker only revealed as Randall.
    Shank will share his story Sunday, Sept. 1, in three services at Eastside Church of Christ.
    Services will be open to the public and are at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
