March 22 Church Briefs

During Holy Week March 25-29, the office will be closed.

West Side Christian

Worshipers at West Side Christian Church this Sunday will celebrate two events — Palm Sunday and the church’s 60th anniversary. Rev. Terry Schlein’s sermon will be titled “Vision through Jesus Christ,” with Scripture text Haggai 1:7. His children’s sermon will be “Spreading the Good News,” based on Luke 24. The choir will sing “O Clap Your Hands.”

A luncheon will follow the worship service and fellowship will include memories, pictures, and stories from the past as well as eager anticipation of the future.

The choir will meet for rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. This observation will include Scripture reading, the ritual of Communion, and congregational singing. The choir will sing “The Garden Path,” and candles will be extinguished to symbolize the coming crucifixion of the Light of the World. After the Christ Candle is extinguished, the sanctuary will be stripped to be stark, bare, and unadorned to reflect Jesus’ abandonment during the night in Gethsemane. The church will remain bare until the Easter sunrise service.

Miracle Revival Center

The significance of His life rests upon the event that is celebrated every year on Easter Sunday: His resurrection from the dead.

The Easter Drama presented by Miracle Revival Center in Duncan portrays that moment in history, as well as days leading up to it, with fast moving eventsthat are celebrated during Holy Week by Christians worldwide. The audience relives this moving story, as the Bible comes to life before their very eyes in approximately one hour of time.

Rev. Stephen Grace, pastor of the church, plays the part of Jesus and the cast members of the congregation are realistically costumed in attire relative to the part being portrayed. Pastor Grace said he tries to make the drama as life like as possible using theatrical effects to dramatize the action and set the mood and atmosphere of each scene; and by using live animals, one which includes Rev. Grace’s own donkey, Harley Hezekiah Davidson, he has used for several years now in Biblical dramas.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
