Area church briefs

DUNCAN — First United Methodist Church

5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday is the annual Trunk or Treat and Fall Fun Festival, in the south parking lot and the FUMCenter.

Church Women United of Duncan

The Church Women of Duncan will celebrate World Community Day 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2 at the First United Methodist Church, 2300 Country Club Rd., in the north wing of the building. There is a large parking lot by the north entrance facing the Magnolia Apartments. There is no connecting drive between the church and the apartments. Hostesses for the event will be the Methodist Women of the church. This year’s theme is “The Sights and Sounds of Harmony as we Abide in the Community Together.” In this study they hope to learn how to abide in their own community with diverse faith groups. World Community Day is celebrated by Christian women and is a volunteer movement initiated by women in the United States and Puerto Rico. It brings together women of diverse cultures, races and traditions in close Christian fellowship.

Parkview Baptist Church

Noonday bible study will be Wednesday, with a continuation on relationships focusing on Godly relationships titled “If you are happy and you know it, share your faith.” Annual Trunk or Treat at the church is Wednesday. For information, call 580-255-5525.

City Heights Baptist Church

Singing celebration is 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at City Heights Baptist Church. Special service will be led by Bill Greer and feature George Hopkins guitarist, Brenda Petty and June Ward. Event is open to all. The church is located at 401 S.12th.

First Baptist Church, Comanche

Toby Walker is interim pastor at First Baptist Church in Comanche. Afternoon and evening activities on Sunday include choir practice at 4:30, youth programs at 5 and evening worship at 6. Loops of Love group, for women working on knit and crochet projects, meet at 3 p.m. Tuesdays in the Ruth classroom. The church will participate in downtown Comanche’s Halloween celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. At 6:30, youngsters and teens will find learning, fellowship and service opportunities with Teamkids and youth Bible study, while adults meet in the auditorium for Wednesday’s prayer service.   • OACD, Oklahoma Conference of Churches pair up for ‘drought prayer’

    Oklahomans are being asked to focus on water conservation and stewardship and continue to keep drought-affected areas in their thoughts. A state-wide day of prayer has been set for 6 p.m. Sept. 18, backed by Oklahoma Conservation Districts, Oklahoma Conference of Churches and Whole Creation Community partnership.

    Almost everyone has at least one defining experience in their life which makes them take a closer look at all the beliefs they hold.
    For Michael Shank, author of “Muscle and a Shovel,” his came when he attended a Bible study taught by a former co-worker only revealed as Randall.
    Shank will share his story Sunday, Sept. 1, in three services at Eastside Church of Christ.
    Services will be open to the public and are at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
