Devastation prompts local outpouring of giving

The Duncan Banner

The following churches are doing their part to assist Haiti. If you would like to contribute, you can contact one of these churches or another church of your choosing.

n Cornerstone Assembly of God took up a special offering to assist the relief efforts. Cornerstone raised $1,600 to donate to Haiti through Convoy of Hope and Mission of Mercy.

“It was a tremendous offering for our church. We say little is much when God is in it,” pastor Andy Jenkins said.

“We watched a video from our general superintendent of the devastation. When I first watched it in my office, I began to weep. Those pictures were so powerful. If we will do our part, God will do his part.”

n Rivers of Life members gave more than $1,000 in contributions Sunday.

“We took an offering up Sunday, we received an offering for Max Manning of Global Missions. He is a missionary to Haiti, he has churches and orphanages throughout Haiti,” pastor Glenn McGee said.

n St. Pauls United Methodist Church pastor Dan Fletcher said that 100 percent of what his church collects is being sent straight to Haiti.

“We put a bulletin insert in to make announcements that we have had some deaths of some people that were serving in Haiti and we are taking special offerings for Haiti. What we are mainly doing is raising money to send to Haiti. We will continue to take offerings for Haiti in the foreseeable future.”

n Brent Justus, founder of Life’s Hope, donated 10 pallets of medical supplies and water to Haiti through Convoy of Hope. “I love to help people. If you see people in need, the Bible says you should help them,” Justus said. “The people of Haiti need all of our help.”
