The Duncan Banner
The opportunity is here. The window of time is brief. The importance of consideration is critical. And the decisions are important.
It is filing time for political offices, time for current leaders to re-commit, time for people with a vision to emerge, time for citizens to pay their civic rent.
The process begins tomorrow.
A three-day window opens Monday.
Candidates seeking the positions of mayor and councilmen from Wards II and IV in Marlow along with school board candidates from nine Stephens County districts can declare their intentions to run beginning at 8 a.m. They have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to make that decision.
Their respective races are Feb. 11.
Likewise, candidates seeking the positions of councilmen from Wards 1 and 2 in Duncan will be asked to declare their intentions between Feb. 1 and Feb. 4 with the election set for April 1.
All are positions of great responsibility, jobs awaiting men and women whose goal it is to make good councils and school districts and communities even better. Local government is the purest and most impactful of all government. Having good people in the right places is essential.
